Commitment

QUT's Reconciliation Statement contains the following commitment in relation to research.

In consultation with Indigenous Australian people, QUT will:

  • encourage appropriate and beneficial research of Indigenous issues, ensuring the research is developed in partnership with Indigenous communities and is conducted in accordance with relevant Indigenous protocols and ethical guidelines.

Progress

  • The University has a well-developed capacity to pioneer specific research methods in areas of concern for Indigenous Australians, and the University's various research committees are currently considering further implementation strategies to realise this commitment.

  • The development of protocols and ethics relating to Indigenous research should be underpinned by a thoughtful approach to Indigenous knowledge frameworks. Professor Martin Nakata’s address to QUT has been followed up with specific workshops with Oodgeroo Unit staff to explore this area.
